Breaking the Cycle of Dependency: Contributing to Armenia’s Future
Mer Hooys’ mission is to provide opportunities for at-risk girls in Armenia so they may achieve a productive and secure future. These girls come from severely impoverished families and either have been, or are in imminent danger of being, placed in government-run facilities, boarding schools or crisis facilities.
Without comprehensive support as they mature, girls from depressed social backgrounds in Armenia have little hope for a bright future. Instead, they inevitably fall into lives of prostitution, human trafficking, homelessness and victims of domestic violence.
Mer Hooys provides qualified girls with a comfortable and safe home, a family environment, psychological support, family reunification services, and education support, including training in languages, social skills, community relations, arts, religion, health and life skills, and job skills.
By empowering these youths to secure stable independent lives for themselves, we are not only investing in them, but also in the new social paradigms as the government seeks of closure of state institutions and changes necessary to effectively break the cycles of poverty and abuse.
